where do i start?
When choosing a dance class for your student, the question of time commitment often arises. How long should we expect for our child to be at the studio? The answer to that question is dependant on the level of training your student wishes to acquire. If your dancer wishes to take class for fun, recreationally only, one hour per week will do just fine. If your student wishes to dive deeper into the art form, possibly pursuing a career, they will need to spend more time in the studio.
PRE SCHOOL AGES 2-5
Here at Turning Point we know that the first five years of a child's life are the foundation that shapes children's future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school.
Warm and responsive interactions between adults and young children are key to children’s optimum development and learning. At Turning Point Dance we invest in our teacher’s education, qualifications and skills to provide a safe, loving environment.
Turning Point’s preschool program for dancers 2.5-5 is designed to enhance gross motor development, listening skills, musicality, and nurture the creative spirit.
FOR FUNSIES Ages 6 & up
If you are looking to give your beginning dancer a solid foundation in dance education or if you’re looking for less commitment, we recommend choosing a class under the for funsies tab! In these classes you can come 45 mins to 1hr of dance per week: at this level of commitment, your dancer will learn and maintain basic skills, with slower progression in technique. If your dancer wishes to progress to the accelerated training program, multiple classes are recommended.
ACCELERATED TRAINING
If you’re looking for a more committed and accelerated training, we recommend 2hr to 4hr per week (level 1-3) and 5+ hours a week for level 4 and higher: At this level of commitment, your dancer will learn, and maintain skills, with quicker progression in technique.
Advancement is based on correct placement, skill mastery, and instructor recommendation-not by age-which means all classes have a variety of age levels. Students spend an average of two years at each level before mastering the skills to advance. Students receive annual skills tests.
